ANANKE MAG OPENS COVER DESIGN & ESSAY-WRITING COMPETITIONS FOR COLLEGE STUDENTS

UAE-based women’s e-zine calls on students in the MENA & Pakistan to showcase creativity in time for Ananke Mag’s first anniversary celebration.

Dubai, UAE: Ananke – an eZine showcasing visionary women – is proud to announce two competitions (essay-writing and cover design) on its one year founding anniversary celebration.

The two competitions will be launched on October 1 and will run till November 2, 2015. Winners will be initially announced online on November 10, 2015. Prizes include cool electronic gadgets and a one-month internship (remote and/or onsite) at Ananke. In addition, the works of winners and runners-up will be showcased digitally as well as in the annual print publication of the magazine.

College students aged 16 to 25 are eligible to compete and will need to furnish their full names, school names, email address as well as their date of birth.


The two competitions will be launched on October 1 and will run till November 2, 2015. Winners will be initially announced online on November 10, 2015. Prizes include cool electronic gadgets and a one-month internship (remote and/or onsite) at Ananke. In addition, the works of winners and runners-up will be showcased digitally as well as in the annual print publication of the magazine.


Students can choose from a list of seven topics for the essay-writing competition, namely: (1) UAE: Progress through diversity; (2) Women’s economic emancipation via technology in MENA; (3) Importance of engaging women for the sustainable development of nations; (4) Empowering the Pakistani Woman through tech; (5) Alleviating health issues of refugee women (6) Human Habitation in Outer Space, (7) Women in Space.

Essay-writing competition entries should be written in English, typewritten (computerized), double-spaced using Times New Roman, Courier or Arial at 12 points, and should have a word count of 600-800 words. Criteria for judging will include relevance to the topic, unity and coherence, grammar, and style. All entries must contain the title, topic, author’s name, and school. Only one entry will be allowed for each participant.

While Ananke welcomes all students, male and female, for its essay-writing competition, the cover design contest will be a female student only event. Topics include: (1) Diversity; (2) Women Economic Empowerment; (3) Women & Tech; (4) Educate to Empower, (5) Empowering Women of the East, (6) Women in Space.

Cover design contest entries can be done using any visual arts (painting, drawing, mixed media) medium on any type of paper, and may be colored or in black and white. Finished sizes of entries should not be smaller than 8.27×11.69 inches (A4) but should not exceed 11×14 inches. Relevance, originality, creativity and effectiveness are the key criteria for judging. All cover design entries must be attached onto an illustration board backing bearing the title of the entry, topic, artist’s name, and school. Only one entry will be accepted from each participant.

Talking about the competitions, Executive Editor Sabin Muzaffar comments, “Ananke strives to be an interactive platform that not only showcases visionary women but also documents their achievements. By announcing the competition, we aim to engage both male and female students in an all-inclusive meaningful discussion about diversity and its critical role in creating just, equitable and sustainable societies. By inviting students to connect to mainstream media, we are not only triggering a meaningful conversation but also enabling the future generation to think, analyze and act as responsible, productive citizens.”

Ananke eZine is known for producing some of the most profound in-depth stories, articles and commentaries relating to issues of female empowerment, women’s economic emancipation, and gender mainstreaming.

Ananke was recently selected among the Top 12 finalists in the highly coveted Hadafi competition for women entrepreneurs in the MENA region. Ananke’s efforts for women empowerment have also been featured in The Moroccan Times.
