Award winning author Anam Zakaria To Share Insight on the Historicity of Erasure at AnankeWLF2024

Ananke’s Women in In Literature Festival welcomes award-winning author and distinguished oral historian, Anam Zakaria at its fourth edition on April 23rd, 2024. The digital/remote event will be live-streamed on Ananke’s Facebook (@anankemag) and YouTube pages and initiate meaningful conversations that strive to mobilize impact.

Anam Zakaria is an award-winning author, freelance journalist and the co-founder of Qissa, a storytelling platform for immigrants. She writes frequently on issues of violence, memory, narrative making and the construction of the ‘other’. Her work has appeared in Al Jazeera, Dawn, Scroll and CBC among other media outlets and has been translated into several languages. Anam is currently based in Toronto.

Talking about her participation, Anam said: Ananke’s Women in Literature Festival is set apart by the kinds of conversations it fosters and champions at a time of shrinking avenues for dissent and critical engagement. It is always an honour to be invited to speak on this essential platform.”

Anam will be sharing insight focusing on the Historicity of Erasure where she will shed light on the 1971 genocide and how it has been silenced in Pakistan. She will talk about the techniques used to undermine other genocides, not least Palestine.

AnankeWLF2024 envision to create a safe, inclusive space for dialogue through engaging conversations amongst visionaries, thought leaders as well as comments from the viewers.

Ananke’s Women in Literature Festival 2024 aims to mobilize change by initiating conversations and dialogue across language, politics and socio-cultural boundaries. Over the past decade, humanity has seen the world grapple with increasing division, de-sensitization, and lack of compassion. Traditional and new media has played a pivotal role in amplifying such polarization through its use of propaganda, warped and divisive optics, and manipulative messaging.

At Ananke and by extension the Women in Literature Festival, the vision is to create a space for imagination, creativity and dialogue as fundamental values upon which just, and equitable societies are built and sustained.
