World Literature Today (WLT) in collaboration with Ananke will cohost a special event to showcase WLT’s latest city issue, “Delhi in the Anthropocene,” guest-edited by Amit R. Baishya. The conversation will be held digitally on June 30th, 2025.
The webinar — which begins at 10:00am EDTin the US, at 6.00pm Dubai and 7:30pm in Delhi — is free and open to the general public, but advance registration is required at the following link.
The launch of the latest issue; which gathers a rich mixture of fiction, poetry, graphic narrative, photography, and film with a focus on multispecies cohabitation in the megacity; include eminent contributors Ravi Agarwal, Nitoo Das, Vishwajyoti Ghosh, Sumana Roy, and Vandana Singh. Amit Baishya, Daniel Simon, WLT’s editor in chief and Sabin Muzaffar, Ananke’s founder and executive editor will be hosting the event.
Featuring some of the finest contemporary writers and artists from India, “Delhi in the Anthropocene” considers environments, milieus, multispecies life, and the atmosphere in India’s capital city. Delhi is often in the news for problems pertaining to climate change, air quality, heat, and pollution. While the works featured in this collection focus on such aspects and what they mean for life and living, they also depict modes of cohabitation, survival, and interspecies connection in the neoliberal city.

About the Hosts
The author of three books of poems, Daniel Simon is an award-winning editor, poet, essayist, translator, and WLT’s assistant director and editor in chief. His most recent edited collection, Dispatches from the Republic of Letters: 50 Years of the Neustadt International Prize for Literature(2020), was a Publishers Weekly starred pick. Compass on the Navigable Sea, his anthology commemorating World Literature Today’s centennial, is forthcoming from Restless Books in spring 2026.
Amit R. Baishya is associate professor of English at the University of Oklahoma. He teaches courses on postcolonial theory and the environmental humanities. He is the author of, among others, Attunement to Others: Multispecies Cohabitation in the Anthropocene (Cambridge University Press, forthcoming). Baishya also translates from Assamese to English.
Sabin Muzaffar is the founder and executive editor of Anankemag.com, a new media and development platform creating inclusive conversations in the digital realm. In 2021 she founded another initiative, Ananke’s Women in Literature Foundation (now Ananke Festival of Literature), focusing on the Global South with a vision to create narratives about democratizing the media and publishing landscape as well as highlighting diverse set of voices. Possessing 25+ years of experience in print and digital media, she has mentored and trained 100+ girls globally with focus on digital media, online advocacy, and communication. Under her guidance, Ananke has been nominated twice by the World Summit on Information Society Prizes (2019, 2020) and is currently a Commitment Maker for the Actions Coalition, Generation Equality.
