Stellar array of thought leaders to descend on Ananke, CodeGirls Pakistan, WomenInTechPk’s Girls In ICT Summit tomorrow

A distinguished array of thought leaders will descend upon the virtual Girls In ICT Summit tomorrow, May 7th, 2022 to talk about initiatives and solutions that bridge the digital gender divide, enabling access to learning and opportunities in a safe environment.

Aligned with the International Girls in ICT Day, the Girls in ICT Summit is a collaborative effort by Ananke, CodeGirls Pakistan and WomenInTechPk that celebrates women and girls in the various fields of technology. The theme of the event titled Girls in ICT Summit is ‘Breaking Barriers to Access’.

The International Girls in ICT Day is a global movement, and an ITU initiative celebrated in over 150 countries across the globe. The initiative encourages women and especially girls to pursue studies and careers in STEM fields (Science, Technology, Engineering & Maths).

The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) has announced this year’s (2022) theme “Access and Safety”, keeping in mind “discouraging and dangerous obstacles girls can sometimes face in the digital environment.”

The Girls in ICT Summit aims to identify, highlight and showcase initiatives, conversations, and solutions that strive to bridge the digital gender divide, enabling access to learning and opportunities in a safe and secure environment.

The event’s opening keynote speaker, Ameni Channoufi, WoLTech founder and PKI & Security Governance Specialist at Thales, remarked: “It is an advice I often share in my conferences for girls and women; go, move, meet and Surround yourself by successful people. Whenever you find them, no worries, success is contagious.”

Ameni will be opening the event focusing on global perspectives of Girls in ICT and her contributions as far as women and girls’ participation in tech is concerned. Her session will be held at 10.10 AM UAE and 11.10 AM Pakistan.

Talking about her participation and the importance of events such as Girls in ICT Summit, Dr. Melissa Sassi, Chief Penguin IBM said: “Less than 30% of women make up the tech workforce worldwide. This big, wicked challenge results in less diverse and inclusive teams & products. This must change. One way of creating a more inviting space for women & girls & enabling opportunities is to showcase female role models. Events such as this inspire & enable young women and girls to explore the many opportunities available in tech. Girls In ICT Summit is a perfect example of how organizations everywhere can be part of creating more equitable futures for all. Here’s to enabling all the aspiring female leaders of today & tomorrow to put the industry on notice!”

Dr. Sassi will be sharing her thoughts in a keynote session during the first half of the day at 10.50 AM UAE and 11.50 AM Pakistan.

Another highlight of the event is a workshop facilitated by Upwork, an organization that ‘connects businesses with independent professionals and agencies around the globe. Where companies and freelancers work together in new ways.’ The session will be held at 2.50 PM UAE and 3.50 PM Pakistan.

The digital event includes thought provoking keynote sessions, inspiring fireside chat sessions and stimulating panels that include trailblazers belonging to South Asia, Middle East and Africa.

Girls in ICT Summit will commence at 10.00 AM UAE and 11.00 AM Pakistan, registrations are open for those who want to attend the session with the option of watching the livestream on Ananke’s Facebook page.
